Hello my name is johnny and I'd like to thank any former or active duty soldiers for their service keeping the country safe. I'm currently 17 I turn 18 in September. I just recently finished my junior year of highschool. My intentions are too skip my senior year of highschool and enlist when I turn 18.
Since beginning my research on the different pathways into the military I've always known I wanted to go army and secure an option 40 to be a ranger. My whole reasoning for wanting to be a Ranger is to not sell myself short I want to be all, I can be. I'm also just looking for a way out of a dark place the way i see it the battalion is my light at the end of the tunnel. I know deep down if I enlist into some regular unit with no space to excel in my career in the military I will regret it. I also have a family member who recently just finished his 20 year career and I look up to him greatly
I'm looking for more information on the pathway from civilian to regiment. Specifically what MOS's can be paired with an option 40. I've been looking at possibly going 17E or some other support or soft skill MOS and reclassing if i cant secure an 11x.
I'd also appreciate any help on being fully physically ready to go through basic crush it and get to get to airborne then pre-rasp. I'm currently around 215 and 5'10 I know I have to cut around 30 lbs to make height and weight standards. I am by no means an athletic monster I grew up as the fat kid until I started playing football. Since then I've made major strides in my physical journey but I'm still far from where I need to be. I can do about 20 push-ups till failure, and 25 sit ups I run about a 15 minute 2 mile and I don't have a 5 mile time yet and cant do a chin up but once i make weight all my scores should go up.
I've yet to talk to a recruiter because I know their job is to get me to sign on the line ASAP. I want to make sure before I even attempt, so that I don't wash out that I am physically and mentally ready for everything that will be thrown at me. My apologies if this was long winded I just wanted you guys to have the best view you could get of me. I'm eagerly awaiting a response.

Hey Johnny, welcome to ArmyRanger.com.
First - How do you plan to enlist right at 18 without graduating high school? I encourage you to research your options there and report back to us/me.
Second, if you type into a search engine the unit you want to be a part of you can find their recruiting page that gives you the MOS information and many other details. Also do that and report back your results.
If you want 11X wait for that. If you want 11X OPT40, wait for that and qualify for it. If you want a different job, pick it, and wait for that one. Don't settle for anything other than what you want. No doesn't always mean No. There are waivers for many things.
You can start talking to a recruiter now. I would. Their job is not only to get to you to enlist but to help prepare you. So if you are within 12ish months of wanting to join, reach out.

Hey ranger Disinfertention,
My plan for cutting my senior year and enlisting before I would graduate is to secure my GED. I do realize that taking this pathway would leave me as a tier 2 recruit. In turn that would make my life trying to secure whatever contract I want harder. So my plan as of now is to delay slightly past my 18th birthday. If I can secure my GED which I'm already on the waiting list to take. then proceed to do a semester at my local community college in the fall I'd have the credits to be a tier 1 recruit. Along with in general just looking better when enlisting.
My plan was If couldn't secure an 11x opt40 was to sign a support contract and reclass ASAP. If you think the best option is fighting tooth and nail for the exact contract I want then that will be the route I take.
On the note of speaking to a recruiter I have a close friend who just signed a DEP. due to your advice I will get in contact with his recruiter soon maybe he can help make my life a little easier.
Thank you Ranger Disinfertention for all your help from your last post all the way till I'm wearing that covered tan beret, I hope to be in touch.

Johnny,
Here is my 2 cents on your enlistment prospects. If you want to be gung-ho about going in with an 11x Opt40 contract, then that is up to you. I WILL however, recommend that you look into the other MOS's that the Ranger Regiment is looking for. There is a plethora of jobs that are available, and keep in mind that if you make it to Regiment then you can expect to learn things that are above and beyond what is advertised from Army Recruiting for each MOS.
Give us a SITREP whenever able.
