Intro- Duncan

Post by Duncan »

Hello, my name is Duncan and I plan to sign a 11x option 40 contract. I am 19 years old, a freshmen in college, and plan to enlist at the end of this school year.

I have for years desired to enlist and be a part of the 75th Ranger Regiment. I am currently on my hunt to better understand what it takes, and what I need to know in order to be the best Future ranger that I can be. It appears I have hit the gold mine for information regarding this.

Ranger IntelToad, I have decided that sitting in a classroom just isn't for me. I currently attend John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, NY. I have always wanted to be in the military and if I'm gonna join I'm gonna not gonna half ass it. Hence why if I decide to join, I will be a Ranger.

Personal history: I have always desired to do public service. I joined a firehouse when I was 16 became an EMT when I was 16, became a firefighter when I was 17, when I was 18 I became the youngest firefighter at my firehouse to complete our Heavy rescue squad training. I aspire to be a police officer in the long run, but cannot tell you how many military vets I have talked to and how positively speak about the military.

Roger Ranger Jim, I will start my dig into this gold mine over the next few months. I appreciate the willingness to take you own time to help us future Rangers. Quitting is not an option. Never has been one and never will be one. Got to learn to embrace the suck.

Pt test: 45 Pushups, 55 Sit ups, 45 mins for 5 mile. 8 pull ups. Just did a 6 mile ruck with maybe 20 pounds averaging 15 mins per mile. No factoring in all the damn tourist in NYC, and stop lights.

Duncan,

Welcome to the site. If school isn't for you right now that's fine but don't throw it away completely. When you join and get to your first duty station ensure you get yourself enrolled and taking classes. It takes little effort to chip away at a degree while you work in the military. And it's free...

Besides that, have fun preparing for military service and I look forward to tossing out free mostly smart-ass free advice :)

Ranger Disinfertention,

It's almost as you can read my mind. That was my exact plan. I will have one year on college under my belt then plan to continue to knock out the classes that are a little more boring so when I come out of the military I will have less school to do and it will be the classes I am more interested.

Too all rangers who have responded to my post,
Thank you for the warm welcome. Over each of these responses, and posts I have read I see more and more people who think like I do. It's a relief that I am in the right spot!

I will do my best to be active on here, learn and participate when it's my time, but I am in school right now and despite not enjoying it I still need to give it my 100%. Therefore I might not be super active.

Duncan, school and many other things are a priority over this site. But don't take anything here lightly. You found this website for a reason, use us as much as possible... but to do that you need to show up! Follow Ranger Jim's guidance and get yourself in the mentee thread and you will be set up for success like many before you.
