Push-Ups: 84
Sit-Ups: 82
2-Mile Run: 11:52
Pull-Ups- 18

SITREP 1/1/2017

One of my stepdad's friends has offered to mentor me and help prepare me for RASP. He spent time in 1st and 3rd Battalion while he was in Regiment. Over the last couple of weeks I've built an AR15 with my stepdad and worked on my marksmanship as well as learning how to properly care for a weapon of that style (to this point the only weapons i knew how to clean were my shotgun and deer rifle). I also joined a crossfit gym to add another element of cardio to my workouts instead of having strictly weight training sessions with running workouts between those. One of the local recruiting offices is planning to start doing weekly combat PT competitions which would include log work, rucking, running, and other team events.

SITREP 20170202

Along with working out everyday and improving my run times trips to the range have become something I do with my stepdad and the men who are mentoring me quite often. Recently I've started to work with pistols when on the range to get accustomed to handguns as well. The first sessions of the combat PT i mentioned in my earlier SITREP will be held this Saturday. I went out and bought an ALICE pack to use on my weekly rucks as the regular backpack I had been using up to this point ripped when i put a 45 pound sandbag in it.

Ranger Jim, I was using a 45 pound sand bag because the gym I was borrowing it from only had 20, 45, 50, and 60 pound sand bags to choose from. I figured it was better to go above the Ranger standard than fail to meet it. From now on I will ruck with the Ranger standard 35 pounds.

45 lbs is not bad but don't go much above . Remember that is 35 lbs dry then you have to add water and whatnot. Never want to be less. So a little above is always good. Once you go much above the 45lbs or so you ask for trouble in the way of hurting yourself especially if you are doing it often.

Joel, Agree with what Ranger Grim666 says about rucking. BUT, you have not posted on the five mentees thread in more than two weeks. Never, never quit!

Roger, Ranger Grim666 and Ranger Jim. Thank you for your input on rucking. I plan on doing task list updates every 2 weeks as suggested by LionsDen, so I will be posting on the 1st and 15th of every month along with the PT updates and the SITREP on the 1st.

Push-Ups: 84

SITREP

Sticking with the guidance given to me by Ranger Jim and Ranger Grim666 I have cut down the weight in my ruck to 35 pounds plus water and a sledge hammer to simulate carrying a weapon on the rucks. My times have continued to improve as I become more accustomed to moving fast with weight on my back. The crossfit gym I joined has started offering Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes once a week and I've made it a habit to go to these, aside from karate classes as a five year old this is my first exposure to any form of hand to hand combatives. I know this isn't the hand to hand combat techniques taught in RASP, but I don't think earlier exposure to fighting hurts. Along with my regular running routine I've begun waking up every morning at 0500 and going on a 1-2 mile run followed by a push-up, pull-up, sit-up burn out session before school. The only day I don't do this is Sunday; i still wake up at 0500, but I save my workout until after church.
