SITREP- Garrett

Post by Giant »

Rangers and Mentees,

I leave today for the hotel, and officially enter the Army tomorrow. I'm very thankful for all the resources on this website and for the preparation provided to us the mentees. It's much more reassuring to have some idea of what's to come.

Overall I'm excited to get started and ready to learn how to soldier. I'll post again after graduation.

Thanks,
Garrett

Rangers and mentees,

Quick Sitrep: As Woody mentioned him smsst14 and I are all in the same platoon which is very fortunate for us. OSUT is going well I haven't had any trouble exceeding the standards on every event so far. My favorites have been heavy weapons and land nav. I'm looking forward to AIT and spending more time in the field. I'm focusing on taking down one goal at a time and I'm thankful for all the posts on here that provided an accurate account of what to expect here. 5 short weeks until graduation.

Good SitRep, Both of you continue to focus on your goal and drive on. Workout on your off time, this will pay off in the future. Don't worry about the dead beats. . .they will fall to the side. Align yourself with troops who think the same as you.

Rangers, It's been a while since my last Sitrep so I'll organize this one to make it more concise.

I finished out OSUT without any issues, Turning Blue was definitely a gratifying experience. My final PT test I scored a 280, which wasn't as good as I thought I was going to do, but it added motivation to make improvements.

Airborne: It was a pretty fun course. The cadre are really helpful and good at their jobs. Jumping was an awesome experience and I'm looking forward to doing it again. For anybody who hasn't been yet don't be nervous about it, there's nothing you will do in Airborne that could be considered hard, and actually exiting the plane is one of the simplest things you will ever do in your life. There's a ton of free time in Airborne which is really nice in contrast to OSUT, enjoy yourself just be smart about things. The course is always over crowded so they're quick to drop people who get caught breaking rules. It really is an enjoyable experience as a whole.

Pre-RASP: There is a ton of downtime. How you're treated by the cadre here generally depends on the maturity and actions of your class as a whole. Currently I've been here 5 weeks and it's just turned into a monotonous grind. However myself and the other mentees used the time productively, our PT test was yesterday, I scored a 291, and I don't think anybody from the site scored less than 275. We've been told we're classing up Nov. 17 so all that remains is to keep mind and body in a good place and focused for that first week. There are a couple tabbed E-5's classing up with us so they have a pretty good handle on running the class and I think that will work to our advantage as a whole. Personally I can't wait to start, it's been a long time in training and I'm excited to be this close to RASP.

Mentees: Don't quit in Pre-RASP. There are people who do and I can't fathom why. It really makes you look like a bitch.

New Sitrep:

Rangers and mentees, RASP is going well. Block leave ended on the 4th and we just finished the first week of phase 2. This past week definitely had a different tone than phase 1, the cadre were more relaxed and the emphasis was on learning new skills rather than purely testing us. We had our 12 mile ruck test Friday, myself and the other mentees; Woody, GWill, and SMSST all passed. We all are working hard to finish the course strong. Thanks again for the encouragement and advice.

Rangers, I'm happy to say I graduated with class 02-15 on Friday. Thanks to everyone on this site who offered advice and gave insight to the mindset of mental toughness needed to complete RASP. My assignment is 1/75 and I can't wait to get started.

Thanks for everything,
