Hello, my name is Angel, I'm 26 years old, high school graduate, community college graduate and work in supply chain. I have toyed with the idea of joining America's military since high school but never figured it was something I could do. I've been a big boy my entire life. Conditioning was there but cardio was my weak point. Also, mentally I just wasn't ready for a job with such responsibility but now I find myself stepping up more in various aspects of my life and seeking challenges to overcome. I've come to this forum hoping to gain knowledge on the Rangers and training beforehand. It seems that the military, specifically the Rangers, allows and rewards individuals who show initiative, solid work ethic and leadership.

Thank you Ranger Jim, Ranger Charlie and Bronco for the welcome. I have gathered more research upon becoming a Ranger and for now it does not seem to be something I can do. I want to join as a reservist and Ranger school is not open for reservists. I still have a time to make a final decision (reserve vs active) as I never intended to contact a recruiter until June. Being a Ranger would be a honor but serving in America's Army is still a worthwhile venture for me if I am accepted. For now I will still train my body as if Ranger school is in my future, never hurts to be physically fit.

We are unable to hire National Guard, AGR or Reserve Soldiers directly.

You will have to first enlist Active Duty and serve with a Conventional Unit for at least 6 months and then contact the Regimental Recruiting Detachment (REC-D) at 75recruit@soc.mil."

Ranger School and Ranger Regiment are not the same thing. Completely different animals.

Do some research on both, and post what the differences are here in this thread. This task is simple and shouldn't take long at all, but will help you understand the differences while you're learning about both.

I have completed the requested research and have found that RASP is for Ranger selection into the 75th Ranger Regiment (USASOC) and upon completion one would receive the Ranger scroll, which is a unit designation, as well at the tan beret. The operator at some point would attend Ranger School which is a leadership course and upon completion would receive the Ranger tab. A reservist could attend Ranger School but not be allowed serve in the Regiment. If that reservist wanted to attend RASP they would have to request and serve in an active duty capacity for at least 6 months.
