Help me find info.

Post by josh »

My uncle was killed in Vietnam. He was a part of the LRRP/Rangers. I have come to a dead end on info about this subject. Any ideas where I could find info such as where it happened, what happened and all that good stuff?

maybe a good start would be with his name, unit he was with, and what years he served.

Your search is going to require a LOT of surfing. I recently tried to obtain some COAAR (Combat Operation After Action Reports) for a friend of mine, who was trying to find out info on a buddy who was KIA in Nam. I never found what I was looking for, but found a lot of good info prior to his death.

I started my search at thewall-usa.com. There, if you have his name, you should be able to get his branch of service, unit, date of KIA, cause of death (for example, small arms enemy fire), and the Vietnamese Province in which he was killed.

Then, I would do a search on his unit...find their homepage. Many times, these unit sites will have a section honoring their fallen brethren. You might luck out and get some info there.

Do some searches on battles, contact, which occurred in that Province on that day. Try to historically follow his unit through VietNam. Sometimes, you'll find COAARs on a lot of these sites.

I can't get much more specific, as you'll find out how many different directions you can go when you start your search. The internet is nearly an endless supply of info. It's mind-boggling how much info there is on the Nam.

Finally, there are countless Vet bulletin boards. You might try leaving messages on several of those, with an email address where guys can write to if they knew him.

Good luck. Your uncle was an American hero. We are all thankful for his sacrifice and for those of his family. May he Rest in Peace.
