Introduction: Oscar

Post by Cerulean Height »

Hello and thank you Rangers for accepting me into your community, it's an awesome privilege.
My name is Oscar,
I've recently enlisted with a 74D (CRBN) Option 40 contract. On the ASVAB I scored in the 85th percentile with a GT of 120. During the time that I was choosing I had told my recruiter that I was looking for a medical job ( At the time I was only concerned with having an MOS that would give me experience to directly assist with a civilian occupation). So my recruiter pulled up 68K ( Medical Laboratory Specialist) and 68P ( Radiology Specialists), they sounded astonished and persisted me on selecting it but I asked to see the rest of my choices. Then my recruiter eventually pulled up 74D Opt 40, which caught my eye not because of the option 40 ( I had no idea what that meant at the time), but because my dad had served with the same MOS when he was in the 82nd ( which I think was classed as 54B during the time). Anyways, I took it! And the second I got home my dad was so surprised though I didn't really understand why. So I did an incredible amount of research. Everything from "how DEP works", to my "option 40". That's when I realized what I had gotten myself into. That's when I focused all my research on to the regiment and on what would be required of me.
That's what eventually led me to this great website. I would love to hear some personal experience of those of you Rangers, because (honestly) technical research is great but it doesn't amount to first-hand experience. So I was wondering
What's it like to be in the service? What is it like to be a Ranger?
What should I expect? And what would be expected of me?
Thanks in advance guys, it's a real honor!

You are off to a weak start. Your 72 hours have come and gone. When you are directed to take an action, in this case a PT test, you are expected to comply promptly. We need to establish a PT baseline to help measure your progress. In addition, as you have obtained an option 40 we want to enroll you in our mentee program. Never, never quit!

Sorry Ranger Jim,
I've been busy with work lately. I've been keeping up with my own personal PT, but I haven't signed in since my initial post. I intend to be more pro-active going forward.
Yesterday I administered a first assessment, the results were:
2 mile run: 12:58
(2min) Sit-ups: 68
(2min) Push-ups: 41
Pull-ups: 6

I'm really good at running, but strength is not an area I excel at (At least not yet).

OK, not a bad baseline. What is your report date? You probably have time to bring up your scores. Never, never quit!
