Michigan passed a new Law exempting 100 % disabled vets from all local, county and state property taxes, still have to pay school taxes. Law signed by governor on 11/12/13 effective for 2013 on and has to be refiled for each year. Only problem was most did not know on time for 2013 deadline for filing on 21/10/13. I talked to the chief of staff for the state senator that pushed the law through and asked why we didn't receive notice in time to file; he apologized and said that hey did not expect the state treasurer to put the law in effect for 2013. Who knew someone in the government could do their job so expeditiously. Even my local DAV Service Officer didn't know until a few days before the deadline and he found out from the city he is located in.
I didn't make it for this year but it will be nice in the future. Hopefully this will get around to everyone. I found out about it at the VA hospital on 12/11/13 the day after the deadline.

Is there an earned income limit on this legislation? Here in Virginia there is a property tax forgiveness if you are over 65, and disabled. However, very few take advantage of it because you are not allowed to use it if you have an income in excess of $25K.

Re: Michigan new 100% Disabled Vet Benefit
As I understand it income has no bearing on qualification, just 100% disabled or unemployable service conected and must be primary residence. When I moved back to Michigan 1-1/2 years ago I left the same benefit behind in Texas, never thought I would see it again up here in this cash strapped state.
