Rangers,

Just a brief update. I moved over from Pre-RASP to RASP on Friday. After a brisk, short run over we unloaded our bags and then fun began. There was plenty of personal time given to you in Pre-RASP, so use it wisely. I was fortunate enough to spend five weeks in Pre-RASP preparing for what's to come. Somehow we had about 12 quitters. It is nothing worth quitting over. I begin Week 1, Day 1 tomorrow. I'm pretty excited that after a year I get to begin my journey.
My PT score for entry into RASP was as follows:
PU: 76
SU: 91
2MR: 12:42
Pull-ups: 10
Score: 321

Motivated as ever,
MichaelS.

Rangers,

I'm proud to say I survived the misery known as Cole Range. Due to the 4 day weekend, my class began our 7 mile ruck to Cole Range on Monday. We were fortunate enough to arrive the day a rainstorm blew in and didn't blow out until the day we left. I must say Cole Range was one of the hardest things I've ever done. However I did not quit.
There's only two pieces of advice I have for future RASP candidates.
1. It will suck, but the suck is just as temporary as the fire the quitters are gathered around while you're cold and wet. Just drive forward.
2. You can never have enough dry socks.

We begin Week 3 tomorrow, with RFR and a planned jump. I'm pretty excited for this. The other class is entering Week 8 and it's extremely motivating watching them walk around with their newly purchased tan berets in hand.

Until next time,
MichaelS.

Rangers, just a brief SITREP.

I wrapped up Week 4 yesterday. That concludes Phase 1 of RASP and now begins the exciting part. We had a 5 mile run this past week and I dropped my time by 3 minutes since Week 1, coming in at 33:02. We begin marksmanship this week and I'm extremely excited. I will keep everyone updated.

Driving forward,
MichaelS.

Rangers,

I'm here with another SITREP. We finished up Week 5 on Friday. It dealed with marksmanship with the M9 and M4. The cadre are amazing instructors and I definitely saw an improvement in my shooting since basic.
Unfortunately, we had a health and welfare inspection on Friday and around 36 people have been recommended for drop for possession of contraband. Future candidates, the rules and standards are clearly defined and explained to you numerous times. The majority are being dropped for possession of OTC medication. Hundreds of Rangers have gone through this course without the use of pain-relievers so just follow the rules and don't purchase or use them unless prescribed by a medic. Also, do not use your locker to store food, just leave and eat it outside.
That's all I have for now, Rangers.

Ranger Jim said it - plus thanks MichaelS for speaking about contraband & other pitfalls that can cause failure to attain your main goal.

Rangers and future candidates,

28 candidates were dropped for possession of contraband. A good bulk of them were in the top 20 of the class. This goes to show that you can be a PT stud but that doesn't mean shit to the cadre or your CoC if you can't meet the standards put it in place. This served as a wake up call to all of us that simply meeting the requirements to graduate aren't enough to pass this course.
As for now, the rest of us left are getting into the breaching portion of RASP.

Moving forward,
MichaelS.
