"Real" Ghurka Kukri
Does anyone know a source for real Kukris? Too many fakes out there. I'm talking about proper steel, proper handle, most likely made in a mud hut somewhere in East Armpit.

I have a real one that was bequeathed to me from my grandfather who served in the Burma/India theater in WWII.

Unfortunately that is about the only place to get real ones... your grandfather brought it home. Puck's got one that was made from a Japanese Zero prop that his grandfather brought home.

You might want to start with websites ending in .co.uk. I know of a couple antique weapon/curio shops on the South Coast of Britain that might have stuff in occasionally. I've seen a few Jaapanese & German blades circa WWII in them. I'll dig for URLs....

Re: "Real" Ghurka Kukri
I brought what I presume to be a "REAL" one, home from Afghanistan in 02.

Re: "Real" Ghurka Kukri
From what I can determine through the use of my Ancient and Mystical Google-Fu, any steel knife shaped like a Kukri is authentic. The BEST Kukri are made by the Kami Caste in Nepal. Nearly all of the Kami are blacksmiths who take great pride in their work and may use the "Damascus" style of folding the steel onto itself many times to make the steel harder but more flexible at the same time (the best Japanese Katanas are made using the same process").Grifter wrote:I brought what I presume to be a "REAL" one, home from Afghanistan in 02.

No real ideas about WHERE to get one, I think Ranger X's ideas are the best.

Re: "Real" Ghurka Kukri
I see them here in AFG all the time. I don't know what they sell for. They aren't as refined as what you can buy from a high end U.S. manufacturer, but if you're interested I will haggle around and see what they go for. I may be able to e-mail a picture to someone to post here if there's any interest...

My guess for any floating around AFG is that they're Paki made.
