US Giving Drone Fleet To Afghanistan ?

Post by Flesh Thorn »

As part of a deal worked out with the White House during a recent visit, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said his country would be getting its own drone fleet from the U.S.
Karzai did not say how large a drone fleet he would be getting, but said they would be for surveillance only, according to report Monday in The New York Times. The U.S., he said, “will train Afghans to fly them, use them and maintain them.”
During the interview reported by the Times, Karzai also said he has been promised additional surveillance equipment, as well as an additional 20 helicopters and at least four C-130s. So far U.S. officials have offered no details on any agreements on aircraft numbers and type worked out between Karzai and Obama during the Afghan leaders visit to the White House.

Or sold to the highest bidder, retrofitted, and then used against US Forces elsewhere.

China, Pakistan, Turdikastan, take your pick.

To be completely fair, some of the "Drones" are just overpriced model airplanes with crappy cameras on them.

I doubt we are handing them Global Hawks or Pumas for that matter. Probably craptastic Ravens.

I'm betting there are now a few National Guard unit commanders that are now excitedly jumping up and down that they are finally being allowed to cycle their 30 year old UAVs out of their inventory...

That is my hope. Many years ago we stripped all the Viet-Nam era UH-1 Gunships from ARNG and gave them to El Salvador.

Trust me, DOHS already has stuff the military has never even seen yet.

Just another bullet point in the ever expanding list of recent events that make you say "oh shit."

We get Blackhawks buzzing the city a couple times a week for the last few years. Love watching them go by, but it does make you think.

About 6 months ago or so, I was on a detail in a parking garage up on the 5th floor, I hear a bird coming and it always gets my attention just for the cool factor, as I looked around, I saw 3 or 4 Little Birds escorting one Blackhawk across the city. Pretty strange site around here.
