Aggie ship named after D-Day hero

Post by Chiron »

GALVESTON - The name of a Texan who led a battalion of rangers up the cliffs at Pointe du Hoc, France, on D-Day will be officially given to a new Texas A&M University training ship Wednesday, marking the 68th anniversary of the Normandy invasion.

The naming of the 224-foot General Rudder after James E. "Bud" Rudder comes during the 50th anniversary year of the founding of A&M's Galveston campus, the only maritime academy on the Gulf Coast. The university has been without a training vessel for the past six years.

Isn't it Texas A & M that is helping with the restoration of Pointe du Hoc?

Didn't know that I guess. I always wondered why they had gotten involved with Pointe du Hoc.

If you ever get a chance to visit the campus of Texas A&M in College Station, TX they have a large museum dedicated to the Corp of Cadets (ROTC) part of which includes several exhibits dedicated to General Rudder.
