Intro-Spotmonster

Post by spotmonster »

HHC, C.Co 3/17th infanty (Ft Ord) 88-92 After completing combat leaders course, operation just cause, and working in hqs for a year, i got a slot to rangerschool in the summer of 91. My class started late jun, and initially had the identifier of 10-91. I started hell week without my airbourne wings, because the unit was tired of guys getting theyre wings and washing out 1st week rngr. training. (LEG RANGER) I remember getting ready for our 1st patrols on 4th july that year, and at the time Sergeant Major Purdy was still raising hell.
I managed to stay with this class thru Mountain, swamp and desert phase with no hold overs. Our class was historical in the fact that we were the very last class thru dugway. So after patrols, we had to load all of the cadres barracks up onto semi-tractor trailers. Then we got hotdogs and chips. <grin>

Purpose: wishing to reestablish contact with graduates from this class.

Welcome Ranger. Lot of good stuff here.

Please stop typing like your texting a friend on the telephone. It reads like you're 15 years old and they are still standards to be upheld.

Enjoy the site and good luck in your search.

Spotmonster, a man has only one opportunity to create a favorable initial impression. Right now you appear to be competing for a no-go at the introduction task. Please remember where you are and who you are. Oh, and welcome...

Thanks for the warm welcome, happy to have served and be here to share the memories. After Ranger training, I entered airbourne school, and got hurt on the tower (sprained ankle). I was held over for two weeks and completed my training with the next class.

Welcome Spotmonster. That's a "catchy" username. I like your avatar also.

For what it's worth, I started, or should I say, attempted to start Ranger School with class 10-91 on June 28th 1991. However,I failed my pushups, of all things. Apparently, my form and technique were not up to the standards of one SSG D'Astrophe. Regardless, I was given the option of going back to Regiment or staying for a month in holdover. Well, I chose to stay and cut the same grass each day and clean CSM Don Purdy's office than to go back and face CSM Leon-Guerrero.Talk about decisions(what a privelege). I went straight through with class 11-91. I did not know that 10-91 was the last class at Dugway. If that's true, then I guess my class has the historical distinction of being the first class at Bliss after moving from Utah.As for chow in Desert, I remember finding a c-rat can of peanut butter that wasn't rusted through. Gronowsky(2/75) and I thought we had found gold. As far as the cadre at Desert, I remember the RI that gave me a go on the last patrol as Platoon Seargent His name was Battellona. I believe he was formerly from 3rd Batt.
I'm done,

Ummmm....the desert phase started out at Bliss.
It must have moved because I was at Dugway for class 14-88.

Wrong hoss. Whte Sands, New Mexico.
No matter, your confusion should have been prevented by my words, " first, AFTER moving from Utah".
