Re: N Korea fires on S Korea
The biggest attack in years (by body count) was the one where they sank the South Korean ship earlier this year. This is North Korean drama leading up to a new 'Dear Leader' or whatever they will call Kim Jong Un when he becomes president.
As usual, fuck North Korea!

With the Gulf War so far in the past, I wonder how prepared we are to fight a conventional war with Noth Korea. And with such a huge debt with the Chinese, I wonder if they'll allow us to fight the North Koreans at all.

Re: N Korea fires on S Korea
We are prepared to fight the next one, as much as we are prepared to fight the ones in the past... meaning, we are not prepared. We never are. We just go into the fight with manpower and guns and make it up as we go along. Its been that way in every war we ever fought. Usually, about two years into any war, the survivors finally figure out what we are doing.Slowpoke wrote:With the Gulf War so far in the past, I wonder how prepared we are to fight a conventional war with Noth Korea. Amen, Brother. We have a long tradition of our soldiers paying the price of our ignorance and unpreparedness.rgrokelley wrote:We are prepared to fight the next one, as much as we are prepared to fight the ones in the past... meaning, we are not prepared. Re: N Korea fires on S Korea
I heard on the radio today that N. Kor has been keeping its population in & around military sites so S. Kor can not avoid collateral deaths of civilians (both women & children).

Re: N Korea fires on S Korea
My humble opinion we have enough assets in proximity to take the North down pretty effectively. The issues will be initial launches of missiles, especially at the South and neighbors like Japan that provide us support. Secondarily, but not less important we need to have big enough stones to cut off supplies from the Chinese.Slowpoke wrote:With the Gulf War so far in the past, I wonder how prepared we are to fight a conventional war with North Korea. That last part takes political will and currently we have none. So we should just lob enough ordnance to let them know if they threaten our troops or positions we will wipe them the rest of the way from the map.

By the way, South Korea has somewhat of a dichotomy with their populace. Irrespective of what happens, there is a pretty consistent chunk of the public that does not want war with the North.
If you want to be successful at anything, you'll need to develop a never quit attitude. Don't let life happen to you. Grab it by the throat and make life dance to your tune.
