I just wanted to start off by saying I appreciate all of your service to our nation, and the work you've put in to earn the title Ranger. What you do is truly special.
I enlisted this last Sunday under an 18X MOS. Initially when I became interested in the Army, I wanted to do Ranger Batallion, but my recruiter told me that it was something I'd have to do after being in the army and getting bumped up. I admit from my own lack of research that I did not know I could get ranger school into my contract. I still want to try and make it through special forces.
My issue is this. I've done some research on the internet, and I've heard many people say that ranger school is excellent precursor to going to SF, not that it is easier or anyway, just that it would certainly improve my abilities vs. me never going. Most people have said that you can either do 18X or Option 40, not both.
I'll be leaving 20100915. My question is if there is anyway at all to do ranger school before going to SF training, what would I have to do. If I can't I'll try and go after I get out.
I ask this, not out of some sinful sense of pride and wanting to take on the world, but I do want to give my 100% at this, and if fail then so be it. Again thank you for your service, and I appreciate any help I can get.

Re: 18X and Option 40
Do yourself a favor and just focus on doing the best you can in each phase of your training to become a Green Beret. There are plenty of SF slots for Ranger School once you've proven you're worth the investment to your SF unit.
I've never heard of someone going from the street to Ranger School before getting to a Ranger unit either. I had to go to 1/75 for almost a year before I got my chance to go to Ranger School.

Fuck Special Forces!
