For anything related to the M4/M16/AR15 variants, hit ar15.com. I built my own rifle from parts using information posted there.

That said, nothing beats hands on, and if you go in the direction you intend, your hands will be black and smell like break-free in no time.

Slyfox, what I'm trying to say nicely, (the same thing Ranger X said) is that you have to get your hands dirty to learn. You wanna learn about weapons? Go to a range, tag along with some 11 series guys when they go. Ask questions, ask to shoot. Put your hands on the weapons and play.

Ridicule can be a good form of testing someone's resolve; if that person has resolve the ridicule can be used as a focus for their personal development. For those that measure up nothing stands in their way.

Army FM's are an excellent source of information about Army weapons, and that info, combined with experience, is a good start.

For you, being an MI guy, I would recommend looking into competition shooting to provide hands on experience. You won't learn about belt feds, however, you can learn about the M16 family and handguns.

For the M16 family, check around your area for clubs that shoot 3-gun competition. The M16 platform is a popular platform for 3-gun competitors, and there are some excellent shooters out there that may give you some insight on maintenance, employment, parts and accessories.

For handguns, check out USPSA and IDPA clubs in your area. Both have excellent shooters that know what it takes to build an accurate gun, and how to keep it shooting. You won't find many that use the Beretta 92, however, you will find a vast array of knowledge that can be used with any handgun.

While many aspects, and equipment, in competition shooting does not apply to military operations, much of it does. Competition shooters fire more ammo than 99.9999% of ALL military shooters, and their experience and knowledge about their equipment is extremely useful for military operations.
