Air Ambulances on the Front Lines

Post by Jim »

Great New York Times Video of Med-Evac unit from the California ARNG attached to the 101st AA. They continue the tradition begun in Korea that came of age in Vietnam. A new meaning to the "Golden Hour."

Great video. Thanks for sharing. Brings back memories of my last unit (Medevac) and the missions/training and civilian runs we made.

These guys are here with me, and I even get to fly with them sometimes. There are some great pilots in that unit, but beyond that, most of the flight medics they have in the back are ridiculously good at what they do. Since they are a California NG unit, most if not all of their medics are paramedics/PA's in the civilian world. I have seen them work some miracles first-hand to both U.S. soldiers and Afghan civilians alike. Most of us joke about the medical care that the big army gives, but from a trauma standpoint, this unit gives top-notch care.
