ACL reconstruction, input on various methods?

Post by Smithy1911 »

Keeping in mind that I want to enlist as soon as I am healed, and need my knee to have the best chance of recovering to its pre-injury condition I am looking for some feedback especially from anyone who has personal experience with ACL reconstruction.

It seems there are three main methods for the surgery.

-Hamstring graft
-Patella graft
-Cadaver "donation"

Anyone know of a good reason to choose one over the other?

I completely tore my ACL, slightly sprained my MCL, and my meniscus was undamaged.

Thanks ahead of time for any advice...

And if my goals are based on successfully becoming an airborne ranger?

Smitty,

All kidding aside, I don't believe its the method as much as it's the skill of the surgeon. I'd be putting all my time and effort into finding an ortho surgeon that does nothing but knees. I went to a practice at Duke for my shoulder where my surgeon only did shoulders for the UNC football team. So far so good.

Good luck to you!
