For current Guard and Reserve members. All else… good information to know.
The Department of Defense Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves (ESGR) has an award and recognition program. If you have a manager, supervisor, anyone from your department, your entire department or the City of Austin as a whole, that have gone above and beyond in supporting you with your military obligations and you feel as though they deserve recognition, please take the time to nominate them for an award.
Here’s the link to the ESGR’s award nomination form: http://esgr.org/resources.asp?p=awards" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The Patriot Award is tailored for an individual person or department, the Freedom Award would be for the City as a whole (as an Employer). Note the Freedom award nomination deadline is January 19, 2009.
"Patriot Award" Certificate of Appreciation. ESGR awards this certificate and a Patriot lapel pin on behalf of the Department of Defense. All members of the National Guard and Reserve forces are eligible to nominate their employers for the "Patriot Award" certificate. This employer recognition is the most frequently presented. A certificate will be given to all employers that are nominated. This nomination is subsequently used by the local ESGR Committee as the basis for consideration to receive higher level awards.
Employer Support Freedom Awards. These awards, ESGR's most prestigious, are presented annually to an employer by the Secretary of Defense. It recognizes unique support to National Guard and Reserve employees. The nation's most supportive employers receive the awards at a ceremony held annually in November.
Thank you again for your past and present service to our Country!

We do not look upon Veterans as an interruption of our job.
They are the purpose of it.
We are not doing them a favor….they are doing us a favor by letting us assist them!
