Marine/ Rangers

One of my buddies who is in the Marines and just came home from Hatii told me he leaves for ranger school in two months. My question is that when marines go to ranger school and finish do they get assigned to a Batt. and go on ranger missions and things like that or do they just go on with thier marine life? I tried to figure it out but couldnt. Sorry if my question is fuckin gay and retarded. Any thing would be helpful
