New cadet introduction

Greetings Rangers,

My name is Chase, I'm a twenty year old contracted/scholarship ROTC MS-III cadet. I am finishing my Bachelor's in Sociology (Criminal Justice option) this semester. I'm ahead academically and thus have the option of either commissioning at the end of LDAC this summer or pursuing a Master's degree in my three remaining semesters after I earn my Bachelor's degree this semester. It's a difficult decision and part of the reason I have joined ArmyRanger.com. I'm hoping to be able to find an Officer on this forum who has commissioned under similar circumstances and can advise me on this decision.

I eat, live, sleep, and breath the Army. I want to be the hardest warrior I can be and then some. Since joining ROTC, I finally feel “at homeâ€

I am also leaning towards finishing the masters simply because I know that once I leave school, I will not want to go back. I really can't stand it, to be honest. I dislike my classes, my professors, and my peers; the only thing that motivates me to do well is to earn that Infantry slot.

I want to be "the Enlisted man's/NCO's Officer". I will put the well being of my soldiers way in front of my career. There are a million and two things more important than how quickly one makes rank, at least to me. I really have no desire to rise to a rank where I will not be directly involved in the field anymore.

I feel a cadet should want to be an Officer because of what they feel they can do for their enlisted soldiers that they will lead. I really despise individuals who simply want to be Officers for the pay grade and career, they're a detriment to the Army and are responsible for getting good soldiers killed.

I've aggressively pursued units during all the breaks, so I'm actually waiting more on finishing up ROTC classes than finishing up my degree.

My goal is, and I believe it is well within my reach, to have a 300 by the time I go to LDAC this summer. If I have another year after LDAC before going active duty, that would be even more PT improvement and would better prepare me for Ranger School.

You will be "Branched" based on your overall performance and class standing. If you want to avoid being a Quartermaster or Signal officer, you need to work on your PT.
