Grand Jury Clears Texan in the Killing of 2 Burglars

Post by Silverback »

HOUSTON — A grand jury on Monday refused to indict a 62-year-old man who fatally shot two burglars last November as they fled his neighbor’s house.

In a case that raised questions of ethnic bias, self-defense and property rights, the jury rejected charges against the man, Joe Horn, who is white. Both victims were illegal immigrants from Colombia.

I listened to the complete audio from the 911 call and you could tell this guy was fed up with this kind of stuff.

I don't support the death penalty for thievery...however...I DO SUPPORT defense of property! And, if the perpetrator happens to get killed in the process of that defense, tough shit.

And.....I would think the home burglary rates will be going down in Huston.

Defense of who's property? Yours or a neighbor you don't know?

Texas does so thats all that really matters here. The guy followed the law, if he had not he would be going to trail.

The autopsy showed he shot and killed Diego Ortiz, 30, and Hernando Riascos Torres, 38, both Colombian nationals who were in the country illegally. But Lambright said Horn expected to see the two men running or driving away and thought he would be getting a description for police

One was a prior deport with cocaine convictions.

That statement right there would have made it premeditated anywhere else, and the fact the he had to go outside to engage them. (I believe they weren't armed also?..)

Oh well. It is Texas, after all...

It is possible, in this case, that Joe Horn went a bit over the line.
