Ranger Odin's Underling, I volunteer but I'm not sure if you want Newt's to volunteer.

Ranger's, I would have volunteered in both threads but in both they were asking for DEP"s specifically. If my help is needed I volunteer my services now.

Ranger Odin's Underling, I too have read this. Though I am not certain if Newts can volunteer for/as DEPs. I volunteer, Ranger Odin's Underling, for anything you need done.

This is precisely why I disagree with many of the farewell tips that these guys get from some of us on these sites (not necessarily here) when they finally leave for OSUT, Jump School, and RIP. All too often I hear a Ranger say, "Be the Gray Man. Don't stand out at all....blend in with the troops. Never volunteer for anything."
By giving that type of advise, we have created this situation. A Ranger should stand apart from the rest. A Ranger should be noticed. A Ranger should always be the one who volunteers first. Hell, that's what Sua Sponte is all about.
Sure, you get smoked more for being noticed. Sure, you sometimes volunteer to do a shitty detail that no one likes. You may even end up volunteering for a suicide mission to assist a fallen brother. So what? Rangers are elite because they can handle the smoke, the pain, and the unknown. If it was easy, it wouldn't be elite. We are seeing the first cull of Newbees. Who will remain?
