Interceptor OTV Medical Issue for Female Soldiers...

Re: Interceptor OTV

Interceptor OTV

In ******* I was activated from ********* for ***. I received a size Medium Interceptor OTV for train up. I am a five foot one inch female and I had a large chest circumference and a not so large waist size. The medium Interceptor OTV fit me well in the chest and could be taken in enough in the waist. The problem that I had during train up was when I would sit in my vehicle. The Interceptor OTV shoulders would raise above my shoulders no matter high tight I adjusted the waist straps. With my Kevlar on I would be unable to turn my head from side to side. With the throat protector on this was even more pronounced. I switched to the size small. The fit was tight around the chest but the length was better. While we were in CONUS we did not have SAPI plates and the size small worked well. The Interceptor OTV had some give and conformed to my circumference some.

Once we arrived in Kuwait and started additional training we inserted our SAPI plates and this is when I started to have pain. The Interceptor OTV no longer adjusted to my body size. Unconsciously, I started to hunch my shoulders to accommodate my chest in the tight fitting body armor. For one year I wore the Interceptor OTV.

After my deployment was over I sought medical treatment for back pain. The Doctor recommended Physical Therapy to strengthen and retrain my back muscles and a Breast Reduction. He informed me that my options were to medically discharge because I was non-deployable in the future because we could not find the proper fitting equipment or have the surgery.

My question for your company and for the Army is, “Can we make Interceptor OTVs that will fit female soldiers that have large breasts?â€

Ranger Silverback, I guess that goes with the reason womens' feet are smaller than mens....

So they can stand closer to the sink to wash the dishes
:) :P
