Introduction

Post by Rooster »

Greetings.

My 3-year term of service in the Regular Army (I enlisted in 1967 while still in High School, on delayed enlistment) was a cross between a Hurricane and a Tornado. Although never promoted above the rank of Private, and I hold no combat awards or decorations, it was my PRIVILEGE to serve in 5 combat units and the 4th Division HHC in the Republic of Viet Nam, in 1970.

My Primary MOS was 76Y20(Armorer), but I never served in that capacity.

My complete military resume follows. I invite any interested party to do an internet search under my name, John Puzzo, for articles and poetry I have written about the Viet Nam War.

Teach your children (and anyone else who will listen) everything you know about being a Ranger. They may have to fight here, one day, best they be prepared.

Viet Nam War:

We won militarily3 times:

1. Tet, '68: The VC were wiped out as a fighting force and their ranks filled by NVA. The VC, or National Liberation Front, never played a role in Post-War Viet Nam.

2. Cambodian Invasion (Sanctuary Offesive): We left more than 10,000 dead NVA on the Battlefield in less than 60 days and destroyed enough war materiel of every kind that they were not able to mount a large operation for two full years. (Rangers and SOG/CCC played pivitol roles in the operation.) When they did:

3. The Easter Offensive, 1972: The NVA were hurled back across the borders whence they came, shredded and bloody: From their bases and sanctuaries in North Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, The NVA Easter Offensive was launched in a massive conventional attack with 14 regular divisions, 26 regiments, and a massive amount of supporting armor: more than 600 T-54, T-55, and amphibious PT-76 tanks. By comparison, the German Army launched the Battle of the Bulge with 19 divisions and 950 tanks.

In addition, North Vietnamese ground forces were fully equipped with artillery, including the dangerous and effective 130 mm and 152 mm artillery pieces and huge 160 mm mortars.

Giap's arsenal was vastly expanded with an anti-aircraft system that traveled along with invading forces. The AA weapons included 23, 37, 57, 85, and 100 mm guns. Supplementing the familiar SA-2 surface-to-air missiles were deadly man-portable SA-7 Strela heat-seeking missiles, for which totally new tactics had to be devised by US Airmen.

is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.'
