If you qualify at MEPS, the longest time you can be a DEP for is one year from the date you enlist.

It's not done by the year, it's so many slots a month... I think right now it's at about 40.

There is no good time or bad time. It's when you have completed High School and know what you want to do with yourself. Completeing High School should be your number fucking 1 goal right now. Becuase if you don't finish, there is a very slim chance of making it to the Regiment, or even in the military. Not only that, having a GED doesn't do shit for you. No sign-up bonus, no extra MGI money. No nothing. All you get is a plane ticket and a kick in the ass.

You don't have to be in the DEP program for a year. All you need is about 3 to 6 months and you can be just as squared away as anyone else. Just be self motivated and you'll be fine.

Finish high school, then worry about being a DEP and getting an OPT40. I'm not saying you can't multi-task. Just be sure that you're going to get that diploma.
