Below are some links that I found useful when I developed my claim and further in researching claims. Bear in mind that I am not in any way shape or form a Claims Officer. I did my own claim but I have had a ton of experience in dealing with Courts and reports etc. I would advise anyone to get some Service Organization to work WITH you (not just for you) when you are going through this process.

It is going to be lengthy, sometimes painfull and frustrating, but in the end it will be worth it. The healthcare and treatment I get through the VA System rivals any I have received at any of the best Metro Hospitals here in KC. And though in all honesty, I did sometimes hate them when I was going through the claims process, my claim only took about 4 months from start to finish. (This is the exception not the rule.)

Again, I would advise anyone going through this process to use one of the Service Organizations. Interview them though, don't just walk into the first office you come to. As you go through the process, do your own research and stay informed. Be prepared to offer information. Just because someone is a Service Officer does not mean that they know everything. And of course, anything that I can do to assist, I will be more than happy to do.

Another fantastic Research tool, primarily for source information but it will point you to exactly where you want to go if you have a medical library available in your area (If you have a VA Hospital you do! And the assistants are very helpful.)

I am moving out of Human Resources into a new job as a travel coordinator/clerk. So, as I become familiar with this position I will be able to share my insight on how travel pay and benefits work for the veteran and will be able to help with any questions that the veteran may have as far as being seen for medical treatment and reimbursement for travel expenses.
