What to do with Sergeant's Gift?
What to do with Sergeant's Gift?
Before my HRAP duties this morning, my recruiter surprised me with a special honor: He had me stand up and he pinned jump wings on the under-flap of my right chest pocket where they are hidden from view, and told me to wear them through Airborne school for luck. They are the original ones that were pinned on him when he went through. I know he read most of my letters home since my mom emailed them to him, so he knows I was successful in my training (became WSL and then PG) and I took it seriously, and he and I became friends after I swore in - but I'm still blown away by his gesture. An Airborne soldier's jump wings are a prized item.
They are not displayed or visible as worn, and I'd like to wear them to honor him (and for luck!) if it isn't wrong/illegal/stupid... As a generally sharp NCO, I don't think he'd advise me to do something that would get me DX'ed, but I am a naive private so I can't assume anything.
Anyone have sound counsel?

Wear them. Your recruiter obviously has a great deal of pride in you so honor him by wearing them. Course, if you feel like your gunna get busted and have some blackhat serve lunch on your ass...take em off and wait till you can wear them legally. Personally, I would wear them under the lapel...I mean.. whats the worst they can do with a nice apple pie story like that?

The last guy I saw do this was the Grandson of Cpt "Moose" Hileger. (E Co 506)
He wore his granfathers wings all the way through Abn School.
They were original clutch back sterling silver wings ....with 2 Jump stars for Normandy and Holland. He wore them again when we jumped into Iron Mike DZ, La fere Causway, for the 60 Normandy Anniversery.

Perfect....and if you want to impress the living shit out of them, go ahead and sew on a 2nd Batt scroll on your right shoulder and a Tab on your left. Hell...bet they graduate you on the spot.

In Airborne School I got caught wearing my jump boots on the second day of jump week (hoping for added support) after spraining both ankles. Big mistake.
I also got caught in Pre-Ranger with a motivational tab sewn into the inside of my p.c.
In both instances the Cadre smoked me shitless.
So if you enjoy exercise by all means go for it!
