Airborne Hold Sitrep

Post by gilsmokey980 »

Rangers, Soldiers, DEPs etc,

I am currenty at Airborne hold which has been surprisingly demoralizing for 16 people whom have dropped their AB contracts since we got there last Thursday. We had 6 or 7 guys drop their RIP contracts too, which pretty much shocked the crap out of me. I am currently in week two of holdover, and will most likely be starting week three at Sand Hill, unless they are taking 11B's along with the 18x's tomorrow, but no word as of yet.

I have posted since before I left for OSUT but I have to say OSUT was summer camp with more yelling. I got lucky with my Drill Sergeants, which is to say they would take extra time to sit down and teach us things after the training day was over. One of my DS's, who came in towards the end of the cycle, served in 2/75 for four years. I am sure he will have fun smoking the crap out of the next cycle as he did to us, but they will learn alot from him.

I have been assigned to the Old Guard and according to one of my Drill Sergeants who served his first four years there I should be able to attend Ranger School in a year or two.

Rangers, thank you for the information you have posted on this and allowing me to be here. What I learned here helped make OSUT easy for me. Hopefully I can continue to learn from all of your experiences.

Dep's and guys at OSUT. DO NOT BE THAT SHITBAG WHO DROPS HIS AB OR RIP CONTRACT. OSUT is pretty easy of you drive on and do what you are told, and this is coming from a guy who was a desk jockey college spec4. Get in shape before you get here because that do not PT you enough, especially on the running. I would also plan on doing your own PT at night while you are at OSUT. Good luck!

Serving in the Old Guard is a truehonor. be prepared to Drill and Ceremony your ass off. The only only other tab in MY book that comes close to the Ranger TAB is the Tomb of the Unknown Tab. My whole time in the Army I only saw one guy with one. A true honor if you get the opportunity. Good luck with that.
It's all good.

Thanks for the SITREP. It sounds like you're doing well. Congrats on the Old Guard slot. My SL was a former member of that unit. He was the most squared away Ranger I ever served with, bar none. Good luck!

When Jimmy Carter gave away the Panama Canal they sent the Old Guard and the Rangers to be on hand for the occasion, remember that Ranger Bell ?
Missed it. I was always deployed....RS...something...I missed both St. Patrick Day parades when I was there.
