Where's Doc?
Just wondering if Doc is still the answer-man for the med forum?

Doc took a contracting job a long time ago - about 10 months ago. Have not heard from him since.ANGRYCivilian wrote:Just wondering if Doc is still the answer-man for the med forum?

Thanks for the info, Rangers.
This is a problem that has been addressed many times before, but with me I think it is different.
I've had terrible shinsplints since 1996. While in the Army, I never went to the tmc, just did my stretching and ran through it. Since I've been out, I do extra stretching, light warm up exerces before running, and always do a 1-2 mile cool down walk after the run. I'm not running 10 miles any more either; I do a 2, 4, 6, 2 miles/ per week regime at a slow pace.
My symptoms are sharp pain that varies from the front of my shins to the inside edge of the same bone. The pain is not that bad while running, and goes numb after about 1/4 mile; it's when I stop running that it hits me like a bat to the shins, and last pretty much until the next run when it goes numb while running. Also, I'm getting tired of my wife kicking/hitting me in the shins and laughing her fucking ass off because it's the only place she can actually hurt me.
My question is should I go to like a sports medecine doc? I've been dealing with this for a long time now, and don't want to waste money on a trip to the doc for him to tell me stretch more. I already stretch like a damn contortionist.
Thanks for the info.

Are you a member of a gym or have weights at home?
If yes, do calf raises to strengthen your calves and take it easy on the runs. Tape your calves with a strip of tape from the inside out, pulling away the muscles from the shin. This is hard to illustrtate but a sports medicine specialist/physical therapist should be able to show you if you chose to see her/him. Ice and motrin after the run will help to ease the pain as well.

Firefinder,
Thanks for the insole link. I usually use Sorbothane, but I think I'll give those a try.
Ranger Doc Cook,
thanks for the info. I'll try what you recommended before going to see the doc.
Thanks a lot.

I just got a pair of those SOLE Ultras. Read the testimonials. Some seem a little far-fetched to me, but since I've NBTDT, I can't judge. I have read by guys that have BTDT as far as stuff like SFAS are concerned that swear by these and the Spenco Superfeet insoles. Your mileage may vary.ANGRYCivilian wrote:Firefinder,
