Since I wasn't in a place with movie theatres for the last year, I went and watched "Flags of our fathers" last night at the local movie place.

I think that is the best depiction of war thus far in cinematography. Two thumbs up.

Anyone know when the second one is released? I believe it is called "Letters from Iwo Jima".

I watched the Illusionist the other day. It was pretty good.

Who's going to see Hanibal Rising? The commercial totally left me hanging...I wonder what he does with the spike 'hawk?

I have seen both. Letters is shot at the same timeline as Flags... in fact, once you see them both, it's cool how some scenes you recognize, just seeing them from a different perspective. I liked how Eastwood "de-criminalized" the Japaneese. It really showed the humanity in war.

I have to say, I doubt anyone could do that with the enemy we fight today... just my two cents.

Thanks for your POV! I'll check it out when I am home.

As for the Islamic-terrorist's having much in common with the Japanese and their Bushido code, well let's let that one rest. The Japanese were hard as nails, fought to death, whereas the shitheads nowadays don't come out when it rains.

I want to see it, it looks pretty good. Never seen the actor that plays him in anything, and none of the others look familiar besides Gong Li, she was in Memoirs of a Geisha.

borebrush wrote:Just watched Gridiron and The Protector. I wish I had four hands so I could give them four thumbs up. :lol: Two great movies.

The Protector is that movie about the elephant bodyguard who goes after his kidnapped elephants. The fucker is off the chain. There's even a Jackie Chan cameo which was pretty funny. Several arts are used and the features several series and sequences that are impressive. (steadycam following him up a spiral staircase going up like 5 floors, kicking asses left and right). There is plenty of comedic relief too (a Thai cop talking shit about all these people around him in Thai, they have no clue...) Also it features a couple huge fightscenes with that big Greek bastard from Troy. Some of the shots reminded me of the Bruce Lee/Chuck Norris scene... Oh and the fight with the Capoeira fucker is pretty insane.

If you like semi-cheese kungfu-wasabiotch flicks its definatly a must see.
Agreed, I saw both movies last week and loved them both. Gridiron is an amazing story that's actually true. If you watch it, make sure to check out the scenes from the documentarty after the credits.

Watched "Smoking Aces" last night at the theater. It's received mixed reviews, but I liked it.

Violence, deceit, federal agents, Vegas, the mob, and a little nudity. What more do you need in a movie?

The Guardian

Costner=good

Kutcher=dumb

The movie was alright. I don't think the portrayed training was difficult enough. Ashton Kutcher, even though he was primarily serious thoughout the movie, is a retard and an unbelievable character. I didn't like the ending, which doesn't necessarily mean it didn't fit the movie.

I just found it hard to get past Ashton Kutcher. I would like to comment on the ending, but don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
