Oh yeah, the FNG. Don't ever get too close to any of them because they are bullet magnets. We had replacements come to the unit and they'd get hit before anyone really knew their name.

Yes Jim, hasn't that ALWAYS been an issue in the military during war time. The new guys would show up in the fire base and stand around in a big clusterfuck.

well thank god it's by units now.

but the bigger distinction is, Fobbet or not?

hearing Johnnie bitch that the Cinnibon was closed today, even after he closed down the Finance office early to get over there in time and it really fucked up his day tends to infuriate those who try to get into the Finance office to fix their no pay due on their one day off, who go off the FOB and fight or drive a convoy/route clearance every day, who may get to eat 2 of 4 meals available daily, who have the luxury of getting back to a FOB, and sleeping on a mattress in an air conditioned CHU, that they may have to share with one other guy.

and which means nothing to some poor guy living on a COP that may or may not have AC, who eats God knows what, and may, by the grace of God, have one TV with an AFN feed if he's really lucky.

and again Ron, thanks for putting these up. I love reading them all.

Just watched an interesting show with a bunch of archaeologists digging up the trenches outside Yppes. The FNG effect was a problem back then too. Cherries would stick there heads out of the trench when they first got there to see what all the fuss was about, after all there was no shooting going on. Bang, snipers would open up their noggins. Never had a chance to unpack their bags.

Ranger KW Driver, as a former financial worker bee in government, I understand your fustration, it's just not right. And I hear stories all the time of individuals caught in the red tape of the system that is too large not getting paid for months while they are deployed, having to rely on family and friends until someone gets a clue and really does something to fix the problem. To go off and risk you life and not even get a paycheck for all your trouble, pretty downright crappy I say.

Thanks, Ron. Bill Mauldin is timeless humor. I can imagine one of Caeser's legion voice the same comment.
