Started my first permenent job with the US Forest Service on Smokey's 60th Birthday :)

My brother did the same thing when he left the service. Said he was going to hang-out with Smokey and try talking to trees instead of wrapping them in det. cord. I thought he was nuts. But between that job and the Army, it really made him the solid person he is today.

Demolitions are approved/recommended for fighting forest fires in declared Wilderness...whoda thought ?

And a few wraps of det cord/well situated charge is perfect for trees too dangerous for chainsaw work (not including the rocket-propelled chainsaws).

He actually left after serving several roles including LEO, Forester and another environmental role here in NY State. He spent a lot of time up in the Finger Lakes which I believe is our only National Forest. But the back and forth traveling was too much. He did however parlay that experience into a nice career. Like I said, guys like yourself, my brother and the others around here who give back in that way are what makes this country great.
