I've got nothing but love for your generation. Don't fall into the whole "kids these days..." trap. Your generation continues to sign up to serve, despite more coverage of what's going on down range every day. I've led members of your generation into harms way, and I'd stack them up against anyone of any generation past.

I had a PVT in my company celebrate his 18th birthday with a cigarette behind my Bradley in a TAA in Kuwait.
I had a specialist gunner in my company try to return fire with his Brad when it got hit, only to realize both his primary and alternate sights were blown (that's what had burst in his face, injuring him), so he took charge of the vehicle, put a pressure dressing on his BC's arm, while getting the vehicle to the casualty collection point and reporting (calmly) to his PSG what he was doing.
I had a corporal in my company who couldn't buy a beer in the States, but was one of the first guys on the ground 19MAR03 when we crossed the border and cleared our first objective.
I've seen guys reenlist in Baghdad.

In other words, this generation doesn't blow, but it sounds like you're hanging out with the wrong crowd. Good for you signing up for the right one.

The kids are all right.

Good point Ranger Battleboar. My statement was a generalization based on a small group of people, no disprespect for anyone in this generation who is serving.

Ranger IntelToad, I did forget to include that I live in a college town, East Stroudsburg.

I plan to share the responses of of everyone in this thread to people I know, hoping I get a strong reaction. Another problem with my generation is lack of respect for the BTDT's, which also bothers me. I hope to change a few minds.

I came to this site to read up all I could about the Army, the Regiment, and everything within. I seriously cannot express how helpful everyone has been so far in my quest for information. Thank you, Rangers.

Personally, I don't give a hoot whether folks register or not.

If the law is enacted, we'll get 'em; registered or not.

Don't register, then when the draft comes you won't be able to secure your cush job with the Coast Guard.

Gotta letter in the mail. Go to war or go to jail.

I'm pretty sure the SSA is law.

You can register through the mail or even on the internet for those lazy fucks.

If you don't register upon turning 18, you get a letter 3 months after you turn 18 giving you a warning that you need to register. When I first turned 18 I was totally oblivious to this, and registered at the three month mark right after I got my warning letter.

You then get a letter 6-months post turning 18. You have an ultimatum to register by a specified date or face criminal charges. I knew a kid who got the 6-month letter, didn't register, and got picked up at school.

Never found out what happened to him, never really cared.

You're absolutely right, but guess what. There is no punitive enforcement beyond the fact that by not registering, you have disqualified yourself from receiving federal financial aid for school loans and I believe home loans (I'm only certain about the school loans, though.)

You're decisively engaged with a fairly bright DEP, Sir.

And he gotcha.
