Just want to keep you updated on progress. Here is my APFT done last night:

Push-ups: 56
Sit-ups: 58
2-Mile: 14:28

Compared to my first APFT (shown below) I've lost some of my muscular endurance. I'm on a caloric deficit right now to drop my desk job bodyfat, and I'd be lying if I said I've been working out as often or intense as I could. The runs are better - I was sore and hurting from my previous run. It's getting easier on the knees, and the body fat loss will help even more.

This is my first APFT for reference:

Push-ups: 61
Sit-ups: 66
2-Mile: 15:00

Even with the decrease in numbers, I'm happy with overall physical progress. Down a couple pounds, feeling good and enjoying the runs. Once I reach my goal weight, I can get back to a maintenance diet and get that strength back.

As for making a decision and visiting a recruiter- I haven't done so yet. I'm leaving for a vacation with family next week for 10 days, and plan on getting some discussion with them going and some time alone to think.
I do not see pull-ups on either one of your APFTs. You need to add them to your workout regimen and to your APFT. If you can't do pull-ups you won't pass RASP. Post your pull-up results ASAP. If you can't do pull-ups there are a couple of thread in the fitness threads that discuss pull-up improvement. Give everything you've got, every time you give and never, ever quit! RLTW

Roger Rangerjd, I will provide a pullup count in my next APFT.

For current reference I do regularly perform pullups in my workout routine and can generally crank out 8 or 9 on fresh arms.

Should I do pullups as the final part of my APFT? Is it also a 2-minute test or a simple as many as possible before letting go?

Thank you as always.

Roger Ranger Dreadnought,

I have learned a metric ton about Ranger Medics from this site and further reading elsewhere. I didn't realize how exceptional they really were. I saw that the USASOC Medic of the Year Award has been given to a Regiment Medic for the past five years - clearly they have earned that designation as "the best".

I've cleared up several misconceptions I've had about both the Rangers and the PJ's. It's clear to me now that the Ranger Regiment is where I want to be.

Thank you as always.

rangerjd wrote:The best way to do the APFT is to do all of the events one after the other. That's how they will be graded in RASP. Push-ups, Sit-ups, Run, Pull-ups, in that order. Give yourself no more than a couple minutes break between each event. It will give you a truer understanding of how you will do in RASP. Ranger Jim,

I've been out of the country on vacation. I just got back this week.

Tomorrow morning I'll be doing an APFT for reporting back here.

Rangers,

It's been awhile since I posted and I owe you all an update.

Over the last few months I have been talking to family/friends and exchanging PMs with a couple of Rangers here. I've been reading a lot and making sure I understand what I'll be signing up for (as much as is possible).

That being said, I have not yet spoken with my recruiter.

Here's an updated APFT:

Push-ups: 60
Situps: 54
2 Mile: 15:42
Pull-ups: 5

Old results are below - I've lost some of my progress. I haven't been very focused the last few months, but plan on coming back with a much better APFT in 2 weeks.
