[quote="Morris0352"]Running isn't such a bad thing, and it's not what I'm worried about in RIP. I'm not a great runner by any means. My best mile is about a 5:30-45, I have run the 2 mile on a track at 13:03, the best 5 mile time I've ever run is 38:20,
dont get too complacent with your run times your two miles time is just above the max score and when you take the apft you will do max effort push-ups and sit-ups first and unless they have changed the standard since i left, 40 minutes is the standard 5 mile run time for the Rgt. you should probably be settting your sights to knock off a minute and a half or so off your 2 mile time and looking at 35 or 36 minutes on your 5 mile.
if you can pt well you are probably going to pass RIP and it will definatley
help you make it in Bn.

OH NO! I'm not getting lax since I see how close I am with my times. I definately want to improve, 'cause if you're not getting better then you're getting worse right? My goal for the 5 miles is @ 35 mins or better, the 2 mile is @ 12:30, and Pushups/Situps @100 each. These are just goals, although I won't be able to attain them by the 12th of August, after Benning/Abn I hope to be there by the time RIP comes around. I'm planning on doing TONS of extra PT while i'm going through basic/Airborne because I don't want to get soft. I'd rather pay for it now and have RIP be that much easier.
Hey Morris, that is definately a good idea to do extra PT in Airborne School. I remember SO many guys that got into horrible shape there. All the runs are a snails pace(you'll learn a new definition of pain
) The PT is a friggin' joke as best I remember; and the worst thing they do to you is - you ready for this - give you freedom and time off. All those things that you missed SO badly in basic, i.e. fast food, junk food, etc. wil be suddenly( and overwhelmingly) at your conveniece. Trust me, I still don't eat at Burger King to this day....
You will have to learn to make the most of your 'off time' at ABN. Managing your personal time is an important thing in BN; although a cherry in Batt doesn't get much, you will have more important things to worry about other than R'n'R
........
But use your off-time in ABN wisely, don't just party it up....If your PT isn't up to snuff, work on it. If your not confident in your swimming, it is a short jog to the Briant Wells Fitness Center(gym over by Burger King
) They have an indoor pool there and all you have to do is show your ID card to use it. I drown,er taught many cherries to swim there....

Got a buddy in ABN School right now, in Tower Week. He's heading to RIP right afterwards.Saltbitch wrote:Hey Morris, that is definately a good idea to do extra PT in Airborne School. Anyhoo, he was informed at Abn School that his class is a new 'Test Class' and they all had to take PT tests to continue and if you fall out of two runs (And the runs are actually a pretty good pace - not smoking, but not slug/snail pace either) you are out of the course. They lost 15 people in one day due to runs.
So, it sounds like enforceable standards, and higher ones at that, are making a return to Airborne School.

Thanks Saltbitch, I plan on using that gym on my down time. My Pullups are killing me and I have no access to a gym and I would build a pullup bar but my friend and I have been looking for some pipe to use but we can't find it. I guess I'll have to work that much harder in basic. Swimming isn't scaring me half as much as Pullups. Everyday I'm down at the river swimming against currents, spearfishing and such. I found a way to work on swimming with weight. What I do is swim down to the bottom and get some rocks, it's about 20 ft. down and it's pretty rough getting back up sometimes, but hey it's better than nothing right?
Oh I saw in your other post that in the APFT for Rangers, it's Pushups, Situps, Running, and Pullups(palms in) what does it take to get 100% on the Pullup section?
