After serving successfully as a Ranger, you can go anywhere into any service in almost any unit. After being in the 1st Bn and then Medevac, I got out and went to college and grad school. Then joined the Guard for a free trip to Amsterdam...dooh!

On the other hand, the Rangers will ruin you for life for other units too. I almost resigned my NG direct commission after my first two weeks in the field with leg med bn. Yep, it was that horrendous back in 1990. Out of all the bn staff (about 6 or so CPTs and MAJs) I was made the Bn S3 when the AGR MAJ went down in the field (thanks Mr Ranger Tab). Shit I hadn't even been to Officer Basic yet! But thanks to my Ranger Medic experience, I still led the way!

Listen Jake, you have a bunch of years ahead of you before you graduate HS and are even eligible to enlist. Those 2-3 years are the years in which you're going to make the greatest changes in the shortest time in your life. You might even decide to be an SF medic or PJ as a route to paying for medical school or decide on the CIA to be a world class pastry chef.*
Just keep sucking in knowledge about whatever, sort it out and keep an open mind, you're likely to be very different before you're 21, so until you can set a course, excel at school, sports and whatever you take on. Any elite unit will demand no less of you so make it who you are right now.
