Looks like it was a close call on the ear. Scarry, very scarry! There are times I'm glad I have girls. On the other hand, I'm gonna have to spend a lot of money over the next few years on "toys" to wave in front of the boys they bring home. You know, machetes, tomahawks, various caliber handguns . . .
In my business, personal lines insurance, I see this kind of thing every day. Your son was indeed under the watchful care of his guardian angel that day. I'm glad for him and you it wasn't any worse than it was. Maybe this lesson will save his life someday. :)
