DO NOT JOIN THE GUARD!!! If you care about your military career. Only join the guard later on in your career if you can hack the 20 years and still want to get some extra retirement points. If you want military exp. then you need to be in that lifestyle 24/7 not one weekend a month 2 weeks a year.[/code]

Also, that 6 month rule is just the minimum, you will still need your NG commander to release you to active duty, and if he's short on bodies he may not let you go.

Coming from personal experience..WAIT!!! I too thought id be a great idea to join the guard while i was in school, you know, get some money and experience, and then go active duty. I joined last june, and after about 9 or 10 months i started gettin the shits of the way things were run around my unit. Now where am i, im stuck, still fighting to go active duty. Im dealing with alot of shitbags in my unit about it. So coming from personal experience, if you wanna be a Ranger, you wanna be Airborne. Just wait till youre done school. IMO, the NG just isnt worth the time.
