Tabbed Recon Marine

Post by Recon Marine »

Just found your site. Doesn't look like you have a lot of Tabbed Jarheads, so I figured I'd sign on. I'm a former Recon Marine from 2d Recon Bn, 94-98, Goldwinger, Ranger School Class 7-96.

Were you already in Recon before you went to the US Army's jump school? If yes, how was jump school for a Recon Marine?

I was already in Recon when I went to Jump School. In fact I went to Ranger School as a leg. I think they need an accelerated program for people that aren't right out of basic. I had a few SEALs and a few PJ's in my class. We we're all a bit annoyed, but made the best of it none the less.

So you did you guys breath new life into the phrase 'Living Caricature' (of the Blackhats) when you were going through the course?

That must have sucked. It's amazing you lived through the experience, given the boredom level. And it's not like they can smoke you enough to even make it interesting.

It was a bit of boredom. It was fun the first time I yelled out "Airborne Recon Ranger" when I was pushing. The Blackhat freaked out. "What the hell are you yelling Ranger for?" I politely lifted the pocket flap of my cammies and showed him my spanking new tab. He was left me alone after that.

When I went through Abn School we still had the cables in front of the white house - I don't know that they use them to form up anymore. We use to intentionally get gigged each day, or mumble *cough* 'bullshit' *cough* after being inspected if we passed so we could go to the gig pit. Then, me and my airborne (and RIP) bud would loudly count 'Zero' to every exercise repetition. There were also a couple Recon guys back there.

Of course, there were also about 45 PHR's in front of us pleading and begging us to stop sounding off with 'Zero' so the mean Blackhats would stop the smoking. Gimme a freaking break!

I must agree. Something about "Zero" was quite amusing, more so to see everyone else's shocked faces that there are actually people out there that thought jump school needed some livening up.
