Introduction - Milan

Post by blarg1 »

Hello. I am Milan. I am a 16 year old looking to join the Rangers when I am older. I have been wanting to join the military for years now, but only recently found a branch I was interested in. Ever since, I have been looking to find out how to increase my chances of passing RASP. I would love to hear tips and advice from ex-Rangers on their experience and how they passed, as well as what they noticed from people who didn't. I am 120 pounds (Very light, bulking for 2 yrs now.), 5'7, and can only do 30 pushups in 2 minutes. Although I am not from a good start, I believe truly that I can get to a point where I am ready for RASP by the time I join. I am committed and have done research to an extent on what to do. Here's what I think the requirements are from online sources.

80 pushups in 2 minutes or less
2:35 plank
63 situps
2 mile run in 14:30 or less
6 chinups
6 mile ruck march with 35 pound rucksack < 90 minutes
15 meter swim in full uniform
5 mile run in under 40 minutes
12 mile march with 35 pound ruck

Please let me know for any changes to this list / any advice you have for me.

Welcome to the site, Milan.

Creating a schedule for your training that does not over-work yourself is very important. Many of the fitness programs you are going to find probably do not target your age group. I always tell people to be mindful of rest and recovery.

Rucking and upper body strength (pull/chin-ups) were my biggest weaknesses. Really most of my career that was true. Identifying your weak areas and working on them is key. If you are going to ruck and haven't talked to anyone in the Discord about it yet I'd highly encourage that. There is a lot to it. Some it comes naturally, others like me struggle.

You have plenty of time and there is no need to speed run any fitness stuff. Evaluate yourself on where you are at with these goals, make sure they are the right ones, and move forward.

How is your education? Are you set to graduate on time? Any issues there? Do you play any sports or what do you do in your free time?

Roger, Ranger Disinfertention. I am pretty average in my education. B,s A,s and C,s somewhat high score on the SAT. I will graduate on time. Prior to being interested in the Rangers, I didn't play any sports or workout regularly. Nowadays I go to the gym everyday. I do not do sports at the moment but I am planning on taking wrestling when I go back to school after summer ends.

Milan, I want you to start researching the history of the Ranger Regiment. Give us some paragraphs in this thread on what you found, and what it means to you.

Also, good on you for taking the initiative for that RFT. I would still do pushups in your training routine, but be aware that the RFT is now the following:

1. Hand Release Pushups - 2 minutes (Your goal should be 50 with damn near perfect form)
2. Plank (MAX)
3. 5 Mile Run - 40 minutes or less
4. Chinups (MAX)

RS 9-20
