Re: Marines ordered to hand over weapons in Yemen
I find this very troubling. The militia are Shiia, supported by Iran. Will be interesting to see what the Saudi Arabians are going to do.cams wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2GmF2GWoEo

Re: Marines ordered to hand over weapons in Yemen
What I find more troubling Jim is that the order came from our own State Dept.
In effect making them leave in shame and unarmed on a civilian flight when there was a fleet just off the coast that could've easily extracted them properly and with their issued weapons instead of humiliating them and leaving them unarmed as they left, while just a short distance away the crowds were yelling Death To America.
And I agree, this has a whole lot to do with Iran.

Re: Marines ordered to hand over weapons in Yemen
I just saw something about this to the effect of the arms weren't turned over to anyone, they were destroyed/ rendered inoperable by being smashed or crushed in accordance with the destruction plan.
That makes more sense to me than a group of any armed service members voluntarily surrendering or giving up their guns with the hordes of booger eaters standing right there chanting for their deaths.

Re: Marines ordered to hand over weapons in Yemen
My understanding is that all crew served weapons were destroyed on site per protocol.
I am also hearing that the US Marine Corps and DoD is furious with DoS. Why would they be if this was SOP?

Re: Marines ordered to hand over weapons in Yemen
Good question.
If it were me, I'd be pissed solely on the fact that my government, which ever department you want to attribute it too, ordered me to abandon my post. Especially in light of all the issues Africa is having with the Arab seasons. No better place to kill booger eaters than from a prepared position with a supporting MEU just over the horizon.
Then again, I'm just a knuckle dragger. :D
The other option is that our current "leader" would rather his armed forces look weak than get another consulate over ran due to some internet movie...
Either way, it does not sit real well with me that our foreign interests are being given up with out a fight.

At this point I believe that they're just scrubbing everything and trying to do damage control to cover their asses from this embarrassment. Call me cynical, paranoid, whatever you want, but this blew up quick and hard, too hard to just be SOP.IEDmagnet wrote:Here you go. I definitely could see that, but at this point I am looking for something to hold on to in dark days.

A poncho liner and a rifle may be all that's left to hold onto in the near future.IEDmagnet wrote:I definitely could see that, but at this point I am looking for something to hold on to in dark days.

Edited for irony factor; just saw the flashing advert on the side of AR that says "Date Arab Women". Nice touch.

Re: Marines ordered to hand over weapons in Yemen
No, the Marines Did Not Surrender Their Weapons
Peter Nealen
Certain media outlets have given a great deal of airtime (and have been making a great deal of political hay out of it) to the story that, upon leaving Sana’a, Yemen, the MSG (Marine Security Guard) detachment surrendered their weapons to the Houthi militia. This was supposedly because they could not take the weapons on the commercial aircraft that provided the last flight out of Sana’a for the remaining embassy personnel.
The story is false. According to a source (a former MSG Marine himself) who was in contact with one of the Sana’a Embassy Marines, all of the crew-served weapons at the embassy compound were disabled at the embassy. The personal weapons (which would have been a few M-16s, M-9s, and probably M-1014 shotguns), were retained for security reasons on the way to the airport. At the airport, according to procedure, all of the personal weapons were rendered inoperative before being left. So, while they may have left the weapons behind, they were not in any condition for the Houthis to use them.
