Questions about applying to the 75th while on active duty

Post by gonnna_be »

Hello all, I just enlisted in the Army as a 35p (cryptologic linguist) and
have been in the future soldier program for a 5 weeks. Being in the Army
Rangers has always been a long term goal of mine. I opted to enlist without
an Option 40 because I know I am not currently in good enough physical
condition to do well at RASP 1&2. I'm motivated as hell and am working out
hard every day to get my PFT scores up to max (current scores- Push-ups: 55, sit-ups: 60, 2
mile: 15:00). I am happy that I got the job as a Crypto but it isn't truly
where my motivation lies. So I am just wondering if anyone could tell me
how hard it is to get selected to go to the regiment after I complete AIT?
Will I have to wait long after AIT? I am totally medically qualified so
that is not a problem, I just need some more time to get in shape and
sharpen my mind as well to ensure I perform the best I can and get into the regiment.

You should find this link helpful. What foreign language do you speak? Why do you want to be a Ranger?

Thanks for the link, it helps a lot. I am still a DEP right now, so I will find out which language I get to learn once I get to DEFLANG after BCT, I am going to request Russian though, my DLAB score only qualified me for Cat III languages (I scored a 108). This is going to sound lame but we all have our own reasons behind the decisions we make; I want to have the honor of serving in the 75th Ranger Regiment because I really want to make a difference in this world, I refuse to be another guy who just cruised through life and has nothing to show for it at the end of the day, I want to make my mark and I believe that Special Operations, more specifically the 75th Ranger Regiment, is the way I am being called to do that.
