SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
Fort Campbell has released the name of an Army Special Operations Aviation soldier who was killed late Wednesday night when a Blackhawk was landing at Hunter Army Airfield.
Capt. Clayton O. Carpenter, 31, was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Hunter Army Air Field, according to a Fort Campbell news release. He was killed when his MH-60M Blackhawk helicopter experienced a hard landing during routine military flight training. Two others were injured in the incident.
Carpenter was a native of Brooklyn, NY, and a 2005 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, and served as a Special Operations Helicopter Platoon Leader. He is survived by his parents Paul and Colette Carpenter of Cortland Manor, NY.
The U.S. Army Combat Readiness Center is investigating the incident.
