Running 50 miles for a wounded Ranger grad

Post by 5thpofp »

Fellow Rangers,
On November 17th I am going to run the JFK 50-miler in Maryland to raise money for a wounded Ranger grad. This is a challenging race! The first 13 miles are along the Appalachian Trail, complete with rocks, roots, and switchbacks. The majority of the rest of the race is along the C&O canal- a long, flat, monotonous and mentally-draining dirt path.
So why am I sending this note to everyone? I need your help! I am attempting to raise money for CPT Greg Galeazzi's Recovery Fund by asking each one of you to donate some dough for my efforts on the 50-mile trek. My original goal was $2500, which was met as of September 10th. Now the goal is to raise as much as possible.
Greg and I both graduated from Loyola University Maryland and were both commissioned Infantry Officers in the Army. We are both U.S. Army Ranger School graduates, and I served in the 1/75. We have both been deployed.
Unfortunately, Greg was seriously wounded while deployed to Kandahar Province, Afghanistan in 2011. The blast from an IED caused severe injuries to his legs, requiring above the knee amputations on both limbs, and his right arm was critically damaged. Greg has since been moved to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, where he fights daily battles on his long road to recovery.
The JFK 50-miler is the perfect race to use as a fundraising platform for Greg's Recovery Fund. One of Greg's dreams is to hike the Appalachian Trail. I intend to get him through 13 miles. With your help, we can also help him with his long-term care and quality of life.
Any amount that you can spare will help! Although you can donate to Greg's Recovery Fund on his website, I'd prefer that you donate through the PayPal link on my blog (http://www.gregslegs.blogspot.com) so I can track the fundraising and provide him with one lump (hopefully hefty) sum after I complete the race.
I will keep you updated as I continue to train, and will update the blog with prep and race day photos. You can even follow the blog through email by signing up on the blog. Feel free to share my blog with everyone else! Not into blogs? You can like the "Greg’s Legs" page on Facebook to stay updated.
You can find out more info about Greg, and send him some encouragement, on his website at www.cptgaleazzi.com.

RLTW!
