Does Heat index affect Run time?

Post by glocky45 »

Rangers,

I conducted a 2 mile run today and got stop watched at 14:01 mins. (my fastest 2 mile run time is 12:58 mins.) I was curious if a heat index of 112 would cause me to run a 2MR that much slower? or was it just a bad run on my part? I understand the question at hand sounds adolescent in nature, but I was wondering if I should account for the extreme heat index and acknowledge that I can run faster, or should I believe I am just getting slower and need to work on it as the "Ranger Athlete Warrior (RAW) Metal Toughness.Pdf" states?

Thanks Rangers, any input is greatly appreciated.

This is pretty common sense but running outside of your normal routine will throw you off. Just be sure to hydrate

Unless things have drastically changed in the 16 years I have been out ( :? ) PT Tests are generally run first thing in the morning. Therefore thats when you should be measuring your run times (NOT in the noon day sun when its middle of summer with 99 degree temperature coupled with high humidity). Not saying not to PT during this time as it makes you harder than woodpecker lips but common sense tells you performance will obviously die off during this time. Train smart!

Yeah I notice a marginal difference between SUPER hot days, and cool fall day (or less hot summer days). I have like keeping a log of my workout/run times just so I can see Treadmill times, Outdoor cool weather times, outdoor hot weather times, and any deviation based on number of days I've ran consecutive. The best thing I ever did was start logging my runs and workouts in a notebook. Very helpful to see progress or stagnation. There is alot to be learned about oneself by the study of when you operate the best and how to push out better performance.
