Which Push Up Plan?

Post by Cisco4711 »

Hello Rangers,

I've heard many reccomendations on this site to do the 100 hundred push ups plan; and I've also heard to just do them. IE: During commercials, when bored, etc.

My recruiter was recommending to just do PU throughout the day and that alone will build endurance, but it seems like 100 hundred push ups plan might yield better results? I'm not sure which one I should do which is why I'm asking. -Thanks

Try this one. It's a whole body plan but it's progressive and it's just push ups, pull ups, dips and running. Takes a few months.

Ranger The Holmchicken,

That plan seems great, but like you said it takes months to reap the results :(
What about the ones I mentioned? I'm wanting to try the one where I just do 200-300 a day, but I was wondering if there were any other ideas on PU. I've tried the Walking Tens that Ranger Kilted Heathen mentioned and those were great!

How many can you do now?

What makes you think that we Rangers had some magic PU program instead of just doing a butt load of pushups every day?

Go find a tree and elevate your feet. Every time you see someone you know, elevate your feet cause that's what it's like in Bn when your a non-tabbed, never been deployed, cherry Ranger.

Here's a quick one.

2 minutes push ups. Take your total and do six sets of half that number wiith a one minute rest between each set. Do the six sets every day, take the weekend off. On Monday, repeat. So to recap, it looks like this:

Monday - 2 minute push ups, rest (less than five minutes) do six sets of half your total (2 minutes = 40 push ups, so six sets of 20 push ups)
Tues-Friday, six sets of push ups

the formula that worked for me for 20 years in the Guard and Reserves was MWF - run three miles, do 2 minute intervals of walk, jog, sprint, but after walking 2 minutes, just jog/sprint.

TuThSat - three sets of 30 PU/SU back to back with no resting in between sets, alternate between PU on knees, standard, then feet elevated, same with SU, do three different ab exercises. I never scored under 290 using that method.

It'll get you through a PT test but is not very functional. There are lot better fitness rountines now. Find your own and do it.

Ranger The Holmchicken and Ranger panthersix,

Thanks for the input.

Ranger The Holmchicken, for your plan if on the last few sets I burn out, would you have me go to knees to finish or just keep doing them with a few seconds of rest in between?
IE: 14 PU...5 sec rest.. 3 PU...5 sec rest..1 PU?

Wait a few seconds and continue with normal push ups. You're also trying to develop good form.
