Good morning brothers and extended family. I'm Mike from Anderson, SC. I'm medically retired (as of October 2007) after concreting my user name in Afghanistan. I was Regular Army from 1995 to 1998, and graduated RIP Class 1-96. I can't remember my RIP instructors names anymore, but remember distinctly one of them looking just like Chucky from childs play . I think one was SFC Wilson (who showed up in the B/3/505 PIR a few years later), but he only picked us up from jump school and I believe he was over the World Wides too. Either way, I went through with a 1st Batt Ranger named Boyd, who I later heard was directing planes on HAAF because of an injury. I ended up in the 82nd due to my own ignorance and it has haunted me since, especially knowing my grandfather was a Ranger under Col Mucci in the Cabanatuan Raid.
I ETS'd and stayed out for two years, started Law Enforcement, and joined the Army National Guard in South Carolina because I couldn't stand not wearing that uniform. After September 11th I volunteered to deploy with the Georgia National Guard (48th BCT) to Iraq, and made my deployment interesting by getting blown up 5 times by IED's. I was uglier and a little more forgetful, but no worse for the wear. I came home in January of 2006, and deployed again in January of 2007 to Afghanistan. I made it till August, and found out that my nickname was still tailing me. I was subsequently medevac'd and retired a few months later. I'm proud to have been an Infantryman (11B and 11C), and I'm proud to have served my country. I love and respect each and every one of you that went before me and are still going. I enjoy the paycheck the VA sends every month, but I wish I was still serving. Rangers Lead the Way!!!

Welcome here, Brother ! Glad ya found us.

Watch out for ambushes and trip wires when ya make into the back room.

Some guys like to set up traps around here !

Naw, just kidding, it's always good to have a survivor on the board, you're not a magnet, your a survivor! Combat tested and proven! Welcome! Ever get to Ramadi? I was lucky that others were unlucky over there. My convoys were usually after someone else had set off the IEDs.

I appreciate the "survivor" comment. I figured it was luck, or sheer will. I didn't get to Ramadi, I was in Mumudiyah, Latifiya, and Yusifiyah the whole time. The furthest I strayed from there was Sadr City once for a Joint op with Iraqis.

I got two Purple Nurples to answer that question, and I'm definitely a "blast" to be around in a HMMWV.

Sometime shortly after the War Between The States I lived in the Spartanburg area. No offense, but I am glad to be back in the northwoods where we have four seasons - summer, winter, winter, & winter.
