Re: Iceland Volcano Plume From Space
Our airport is looking at closing late Monday or early Tuesday.
My guess is that by Wednesday it blows over weather permitting all going well. By that I mean wind direction and that the volcano doesn’t let lose more ash….

In another forum I'm in, the Brits are talking about how weird it is to have an empty, quiet sky, even emptier than it was right after the 9-11 attacks.
Considering SE British airspace is some of the most crowded in the world, this must be something.

Couldn't sleep so got up about 3 and turned on BBC News. Geophysicists are saying this ash storm may go on for a long time.

sitting in sunny, cloudless, beautiful weather in Germany and in the last three days I have been between K-town and Hohenfels without seeing more than a few little clouds. I am sure it is causing all sorts of issues in the UK, but these constant ash warnings i am getting from the weather squadrons are getting a little dull in the tooth.

The UK has "clear" skies as well. The problem is it is not that easy to see, particularly once it has thinned out such as it has over Europe. Just read an article talking about glass accumulation in a NATO F-16's engines, which is the main concern for civilian air traffic.
Just goes to show that when us humans think we have some organized, working system, nature can come along and screw it up with no real effort.

We are free of the ash cloud down here but I saw on CNN that it reached north east Canada. It has also reached Moscow.... The bad thing is that eaven though it will not reach Athens, flights originating from ash areas are cancelled. Folks are starting to get upset and are pushing authorities into letting the skies fill with aircraft again. This will be interesting in that if they do will a flight crash.....?

The amount of static electricity in the ash just above the volcano is awesome. Great pics, thanks for sharing.

This bound to cool things off in the Northern Hemisphere for a while. I bought new tire for my 4x4 the other night just in case.

Had a flat today on the highway...
Just air seeping out till it got flat. I parked on a nail....
I changed my catalytic converter in November, changed my shock absorbers in December and gas is $ 8 a gallon for super unleaded and $7 a gallon is the cheapest regular unleaded I found.

Re: Iceland Volcano Plume From Space
This is a pussy eruption. Our ash cloud went all the way around the world, fuckin slackers.
Eruption Column
And Cloud Height: Reached about 80,000 feet (24,400 m) in less than 15 minutes
Downwind extent: Spread across U.S. in 3 days; circled Earth in 15 days
Volume of ash:
(based on uncompacted deposits) 0.26 mi³ (1 km³)
Ash fall area: Detectable amounts of ash covered 22,000 square miles (57,000 km2)
Ash fall depth: 10 inches (25 cm) at 10 miles (16 km) downwind (ash and pumice)
1 inch (2.5 cm) at 60 miles (97 km) downwind
0.5 inches (1.3 cm) at 300 miles (482.8 km) downwind

Ranger Chiron - No one I've heard has made any predictions about how this may affect the summer temperatures in Europe. Have you heard anything about that? I remember that after Mt. St. Helens went off, our summer across the US was about 5 degrees cooler than normal.
