Re: RASP
In pre-Regiment world (1977'ish) there was neither RIP, nor ROP. Still recall a PLT "witnessing" their new PSG's leg being broken in "Athletics"; visiting him @MAMC and telling him to take a long time to recuperate. Never saw him again...
Considering that we had about a 300% annual attrition rate in those days (based on raw numbers), do believe that a front-end Selection & Assessment process makes sense. It's like a "Job Interview" in many ways, two way interaction determining if you're the "right fit" for an organization. Sometimes that "fit" translates into other organizations, sometimes not. Does not diminish the worth of the individual.
Good Hunting.

Re: RASP
Rangers,
My recruiter informed me that starting in 2010 RIP will now be RASP, which is an 8week program. The first 4 weeks are what was previously RIP, the last 4 weeks is training to help the men with Infantry tactics, land navigation and all the things needed to perform in a Battalion. He said this program is to help new Rangers come in more squared away and able to perform their duties to a higher standard from day 1.
